NATO Africa Full Size Medal
a. All North Atlantic Council approved NATO support activities in relation to the African Union with effect from 1 June 2008.
b. Operation Allied Provider between 25 October and 12 December 2008.
c. Operation Allied Protector between 24 March and 23 April 2009 (phase 1) or 1 May and 16 August 2009 (phase 2).
d. Operation Ocean Shield between 17 August 2009 and a termination date yet to be determined.
AREA OF OPERATION
The Area of Operation for each of the above activities/operations is as follows:
a. NATO support activities in relation to the African Union - eligibility will be determined on a case-by-case principal in conjunction with Joint Force Command Lisbon.
b. Operations Allied Provider, Allied Protector and Ocean Shield - Encompassing the ocean areas north of Bab-al-Mandeb (North of Djibouti), the waters around the Seychelles Islands and up to the Straits of Hormuz (North of Oman).
QUALIFYING SERVICE
The qualifying period for all the operations relating to Africa is 30 days continuous service or 60 days accumulated service within a two year period.
AIRCREW
Aircrew will accumulate one days service for the first sortie flown of any day in the Area of Operations; additional sorties flown on the same day receive no further credit. This requirement exists for support as well as combat aircraft; support aircraft include tanker, airlift and surveillance platforms.
This medal is not permitted to be worn by UK personnel.
