
Military Cross CIIIR Miniature
First established on December 31st, 1914, the Military Cross CIIIR Miniature was originally given to Warrant Officers and Officers below the rank of Major in the Army and RFC. Over time, eligibility was extended to include officers of the RAF and Royal Naval Division and Royal Marines who showed gallantry on the ground. Since 1937, the year of the award has been engraved on the cross, usually on the bottom arm. However, examples can be found with engravings in the center instead. In 1983, recipient details began to be engraved across the center of the cross. Additional acts of bravery can be recognized with bars, with a total of 170 recipients earning two bars and four receiving a rare three bars during the period of 1914-1920. To distinguish the bars, a rosette is worn on the ribbon when ribbons are worn alone. In 1993, the MC became available to other ranks after the discontinuation of the
