Waterloo Medal Miniature

Probably the single most important medal in British medallic history.

This medal was awarded for the battle of Waterloo and Quatre Bras and Ligny.

This was the first medal to be named to the recipient around the rim, awarded to all ranks, awarded to next of kin of those killed and issued very shortly after the battle itself.

Around 38,000 medals were awarded.

This example features the original style suspension as issued although many recipients changed them to ornate silver suspesnions.
