Royal Observer Corps Long Service Medal
The Royal Observer Corps Long Service Medal. This version issued from 1953 when the Queen's titles changed.
Although originally instituted in 1950, no awards of the medal were made until 1953. It was awarded to part time officers and observers who had completed 12 years service and full time officers and observers who had completed 24 years service. Bars were awarded for each additional period of 12 years.
The ribbon represents the pale blue of the daytime sky with the dark blue of the night sky being but by the silver of a searchlight beam.
