RAF Long Service & Good Conduct Medal
The Royal Air Force Long Service Medal (EIIR) was issued in two versions, those awarded before 1954 and those issued after 1954.
Pre 1954 Issue (DEI:GRATIA)
This is the version awarded from 1952 to 1953.̴Ì_Originally awarded for 18 years exemplary service the qualifying period was reduced to 15 years in 1977. Officers are eligible provided at least 12 years of their service was in the ranks
Post 1954 Issue (BRITT:OMM)
This is the version of the medal awarded from 1954 onwards.
Originally awarded for 18 years exemplary service the qualifying period was reduced to 15 years in 1977. Officers are eligible provided at least 12 years of their service was in the ranks.
In 2016 the medal was extended to Commissioned officers who were serving on or after 29th July 2014, at the same time the qualifying criteria was amended and applied to OR's as well (from 1st October 2016 for OR's). ̴Ì_The criteria̴Ì_for all is 15 years of good conduct from the date of any offence which would previously precluded̴Ì_the award of the LSGC. Bars are now awarded for additional periods of 10 years. The criteria was not made retrospective.
